Mychal’s Message Collects Coats for the Homeless in Memory of Two Priests

LANCASTER, Pa. — Mychal’s Message, a charity in memory of Mychal Judge, OFM, the first to die on Sept. 11, 2001, is collecting coats this winter for the homeless.

The drive, called "A Coat For Father Quinn", is named for a friend and longtime supporter of Mychal's Message. It accepts coats, hats and gloves, as well as monetary donations.

Fr. Bernard Quinn, a diocesan priest from Lancaster, who died in a car crash in Italy in October 2006, was always the first one to send a check to purchase a coat, Lynch said.

He Said Yes a Catholic Bestseller
In addition, Kelly Ann Lynch, one of the founders of Mychal’s Message, has been busy promoting her book, He Said Yes, a children’s story about the life of Mychal. Published by Paulist Press, the book came out in September.

The book is number 10 on the Catholic Bestsellers List for December for books for children and young people.

In October, Lynch spoke at Mass at Our Lady of the Holy Angels Church in Little Falls, N.J. Robert Sandoz, OFM, invited her to sell her books after Mass. “We sold 201 books there,” she writes.

Speaking Engagements

Lynch will also be at Assumption Church, Wood Ridge, N.J., in December speaking at the Masses and signing books. The tentative dates are Dec. 8 and 9.

She has also spoken to students at Catholic schools throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio, telling them about the work of Mychal and using puppets and dolls to illustrate Bible stories.  Lynch’s family met Mychal while living for many years until the mid-1970s in north Jersey and attending St. Joseph Church in East Rutherford, N.J.

Information about the coat drive and other projects of Mychal’s Message can be found on the organization’s Web site.
