Assumption School Honors Bergen Prosecutor Alumnus
by Cassian Miles

Wood-Ridge, N.J.– Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli was honored as a "Distinguished Graduate" of Assumption School here at its annual Catholic Schools Week Dinner at Redd’s in Carlstadt on Feb. 1.

A member of the Class of 1971, Molinelli joins an illustrious company of the school’s graduates that includes Dr. John Rowe, past president of Aetna Life and New York Hospital, Judge Mark Janeczko, Dr. Fred Balbo, Dr. Richard Barry, Julia Hofbauer Stapleton and Frank Jankowics. In his remarks, Molinelli singled out Irene Milatz, one of the teachers present, for her training of him in English grammar that has stood him well in his professional career, he said.

Dr. Aileen Giannelli, principal, welcomed Fr. Kevin Hanbury, Newark Archdiocesan Superintendent of Schools, who sketched his visits to schools since his appointment last year.

Prior to Molinelli’s address to the dinner’s guests, Dr. Giannelli distributed certificates of appreciation to those who have contributed their time and talents on behalf of the school over the past years.

Brian Cullinane gave the greeting and blessing to begin the celebration and thanked everyone for their support of the school. Tom Kelly, Paul Sinnema and Cassian Miles were friar guests.

In other news, Assumption has gotten to be the "go to" school when it comes to Internet safety issues. Both CBS and the Montel Williams show have interviewed the school’s Teen and TweenAngels about their peer-to-peer activities to encourage their classmates to remain safe on-line.

Featured on the Williams television show Feb. 16 were several students along with teacher Margaret Sullivan, her high school daughter Shannon, and Parry Aftab, an Internet safety lawyer and founder of WiredSafety.com. Fifth grader Ryan Morano appeared on a CBS report on offensive pop-ups, and the TweenAngels shared their expertise with CBS Evening News. Students are guided through the minefields and the challenges of Internet technology by Ms. Sullivan, Assumption’s Technology Coordinator.
