WTU Appoints Carmelite as President
Fr. Frederick Tillotson, an education and healthcare administrator and ethics consultant, has been named president of Washington Theological Union.

Friars Commemorate Profession Jubilees
Holy Name friars commemorating golden and silver anniversaries of religious profession were honored June 24 with a Mass and reception in New York.

Bronx Street Named for Franciscans
Todd Carpenter, Claude Lenehan, and Matthew Pravetz received a standing ovation from parishioners at Holy Cross Church in the Bronx, after a street was renamed in June to honor Franciscan ministry.

Friars Visit Order’s Roots
As a continuing effort of ongoing formation, seven Holy Name Province friars, led by F. Edward Coughlin and Thomas Hartle, traveled to Italy this spring for a 10-day pilgrimage to Rome, Greccio, Assisi, La Verna and Bagnoregio.

Seasonal Reflection: St. Irenaeus
Friar Stephen Lynch shares background about St. Irenaeus, the bishop of Lyons whose feast is June 28. He is known in Holy Name Province as the namesake for Mt. Irenaeus in Western New York.

Boston Friar Translates OFM History Book
Raphael Bonanno of St. Anthony Shrine has translated In the Name of Saint Francis, the latest history of the Franciscan Order, from Italian to English.

North Jersey Friar Helps Heal Estranged Couples
Thomas Kelly of Assumption Church in Wood-Ridge led a retreat for separated and divorced men and women last month, following a tradition he started nearly 14 years ago with two Secular Franciscans.

Brazilian Missionary Officiates at Confirmations
Bishop Capistran Heim of Brazil officiated recently at confirmations for five Province parishes.

Provincial Minister’s Schedule

The ministry of Cassian Miles, former communications director for the Province and friar for more than 50 years, was featured in a recent letter distributed by St. Anthony’s Guild to its nearly 100,000 members.

N.J. Parish Participates in Climate Change Efforts
Parishioners of St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes recently joined the Franciscan Action Network’s efforts to help influence U.S. legislation addressing climate change.

Mountain's Summer Program Opens Anniversary Commemoration
Mt. Ireneaus launched its year-long 25th anniversary celebration last month, with the opening of the annual Summer Evenings of Re-Creation series, featuring two of the Mountain retreat’s founding friars.

Tampa Parish Advocates for Homeless
“Bad News for Homeless Project” was the June 11 headline in the St. Petersburg Times, according to Andrew Reitz of Sacred Heart Church, who reports on the homeless initiative in Tampa, Fla.

N.C. Church Run Supports McBriar Fund
Raleigh parishioners and priests took part in the third annual run for peace to benefit the David McBriar Chair for Justice and Peace Endowment.

General Chapter Closes
The 187th General Chapter of the Order of Friars Minor concluded June 20 with a Solemn Eucharist and words of thanks from the General Minister.

FMS Names New Award for Friar
The Franciscan Mission Service has announced a new award honoring the ministry of Joseph Nangle, who has dedicated the past 15 years to the organization and is one of its directors.

Sacred Heart Elects New Leaders
The Provincial Council of the the Midwest Province of the Sacred Heart elected a new provincial minister this week.
